4-year-old girl abducted and raped
An arrest has been made in connection with the kidnapping and assault of a young Pike Creek girl that terrified the neighborhood.
New Castle County Police confirmed the arrest to WDEL Sunday afternoon, but said all further details will come at a news conference scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at County Police headquarters in Minquadale.
The girl was kidnapped while playing outside on the 4800 block of Sugar Plum Court in the Village of Plum Run community around 7 p.m. on April 6, 2017. At the time, witnesses in the area told police they saw a girl playing outside when she was approached by a man with dark hair driving a dark-colored sedan, he forced her into his vehicle and drove off at a high rate of speed. Police said while the little girl was with the man, he had sexually assaulted her.
A bystander later located the abducted child, two hours later walking alone in Banning Park, wearing very little clothing. A.I. duPont Hospital later said the girl had been sexually assaulted.
At the time, Police Chief Vaughn Bond called the man a "heartless monster" and said it was a top priority to make an arrest in a case that struck a cord with the department and the neighborhood.
