WILLIAMSPORT - A Lycoming County man is headed for trial on charges he engaged in sexual activity with three young girls and videoed some of it.
After watching the videos and hearing testimony from police, Magisterial District Judge Gary Whiteman Monday ordered Carlos Ruben Castro Jr. held for court.
Castro is charged with rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, attempted rape of a child and sexual abuse of children.
The charges allege the involvement with the girls, currently 6, 12 and 13, began within two months after he completed a 10-year jail term in a 2006 sexual assault case in December 2015.
He was classified as a sexually violent predator and required to register under Megan's Law due to his conviction in that case, in which he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old while she was sleeping.
Castro, 36, was returned to the Lycoming County Prison, where he is being held without bail because Whiteman found there are no combination of conditions that would ensure the public's safety if he is released.
The investigation that led to the current charges began in December, when a woman who had been in a relationship with Castro reported to police she had discovered pictures of a naked young female who had gotten out of a shower on a cellphone they shared .
Williamsport police obtained a search warrant and with the help of the FBI reviewed the contents of the phone.
Videos show Castro engaging in sexual activity with two of the three girls while they are sleeping. His face is visible in one of the videos and his arm and hand tattoos are visible in others, police said.
