19-yr-old girl thrown out of taxi for resisting rape, died
A 19-year-old woman was killed after being thrown out of a shared taxi by unidentified miscreants on a deserted stretch in Madiaon area in the Uttar Pradesh capital on Friday night for resisting a rape bid.
The deceased, Kajal alias Pooja, a first-year graduation student, had boarded the shared taxi from Dubbaga intersection for her home in Amrapalli Yojana on IIM road at around 9pm. She was returning from Rajajipuram Family Bazaar where she had started working as a sales girl only 15 days ago to help her debt ridden family.
Her mother Soni Gupta daily used to accompany her from a turn towards their colony on IIM road. But on Friday night, the taxi did not stop at the designated spot and she could only hear her daughter’s screams.
Soon after she raised an alarm, a van driver Raju chased the taxi for around three kilometres when the miscreants pushed the woman out of the vehicle and fled.
With help of some passers-by, Raju took the girl to a nearby private hospital from where she was later shifted to King George Medical University’s (KGMU) trauma centre where she died during the treatment early Saturday morning. The police said she apparently died due to head injury caused when she was pushed out of the moving vehicle.
SSP Deepak Kumar said “The tempo driver has been identified. His vehicle turned turtle after entering into a pit when he tried to flee after throwing the girl. The tempo belongs to one Raju, whose daughter Kranti used to look after it.”
Kranti told the police the vehicle was driven by two drivers, Sonu and Pappu. At the time of incident the vehicle was Sonu. The police raided the Sonu’s residence in Saraiya village of Bakshi Ka Talab but he was missing.
The SSP said Sonu’s brother has been taken into custody and police teams are carrying out raids for his arrest. The identity of other miscreants would be confirmed after arrest of Sonu, he added.
