Gurgaon: The 23-year-old son of a Delhi Police sub-inspector was arrested on Friday on charges of raping a widow and her 15-year-old daughter repeatedly over the past three weeks and blackmailing them into staying quiet by filming the acts. Police said they had found 10 such video clips on his cellphone, all shot inside the Gurgaon house where the 35-year-old woman lived with her daughter and 11-year-old son.
Ashish Kumar, who police said was a BA final-year student, was at the woman's house when cops picked him up on Friday, alerted by a call from her that she had gathered the courage to make after he had started targeting her daughter.
The woman targeted by Ashish Kumar, a Delhi Police sub-inspector's son who raped her and her minor daughter for weeks in their Gurgaon house, is from Uttarakhand.
She lost her husband last year and works in a private firm. Her daughter is in the tenth standard of a government school. She told the police Kumar and she had struck up a conversation when they met at the market. She had then given him her address as nothing suspicious struck her about Kumar, according to the police complaint she has filed.
Then began the horror.
"He turned up at my house the very next day, around 6.30pm, when my kids were out playing. He raped me. Fearing humiliation, I kept quiet, which encouraged him. He came to the house and raped me again, and made a video too with his cellphone. One day, he turned on my daughter and also recorded the act. He came several times in the past few weeks. Finally, I gathered courage and called police," says her complaint.
She said she bore the trauma quietly as Kumar threatened to circulate the videos. Police said the woman and her daughter were sent for a medical exam and Kumar was booked under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and sections 4 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Rajendra Park police station.
"We have also confiscated his mobile phone, which contained more than 10 obscene video clips of the duo. He had been threatening to make the videos public if they lodged any complaint," said investigating officer Meena.
Kumar was produced in a city court, which remanded him in judicial custody. Ajay Veer Bhadana, SHO of Rajendra Park police station, said police had taken prompt action after receiving the complaint. "The accused is the son of a sub-inspector of Delhi Police. During questioning, he told us he is unemployed. His father told us he is a BA final-year student."
