A MARRIED FedEx worker has been charged with the rape and murder of a Google executive killed while she was out jogging.
Angelo Colon-Ortiz, 31, is accused of killing Vanessa Marcotte, 27, who was found dead with her hands, feet and head burned close to her mum’s home in Princeton, America in August 2016, reports The Sun.
She was reported missing when she failed to return to her parent’s home after going for a jog.
Her body was later found half a mile away partially undressed, CBS Boston reports.
Colon-Ortiz was arrested in April based on DNA evidence and initially charged with aggravated assault and battery as well as assault with attempt to rape.
But, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr has now said the suspect will be arraigned on a murder charge at a later date.
He is being held on a US$10million (A$13.2 million) bail.
After the arrest Marcotte’s family said: “After eight long months, we’re able to take the first step toward justice for Vanessa.
“She was a beautiful, intelligent, and generous young woman whose passion for giving back to the community will always be remembered.”
Earlier this year the Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr said that Marcotte’s bravery in trying to fend off her attacker had helped investigators track down a suspect.
Mr Early said: “It was through her determined fight and efforts that we obtained the DNA of her killer.”
Colon-Ortiz was described in court as a married FedEx worker.
