Man re-sentenced for brutal rape, murder of 22-year-old girl
CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — Todd Davilla, 41, was just 16 years old when he used a Boy Scout knife to attack and murder 22-year-old Lisa Flormoe in Wilsonville in 1991.
The attack was so brutal that Flormoe was nearly decapitated.
Davilla's sentences had already been overturned and sent back to Clackamas County Court six previous times.
"This beautiful girl was ripped away," said Carol Ranck, who is a cousin of Lisa's mother.
Ranck's husband Terry hopes this sentence finally is upheld on appeal.
"He'll be 66 before he gets out and pray to God that he won't attack somebody even at that age," said Terry Ranck.
Wednesday, Clackamas County Judge Eve Miller re-sentenced Davilla to 50 years in prison, saying he's too dangerous to release from prison and isn't sincerely sorry for what he did.
"I am prone to tears sometimes when I hear from people who have done awful, awful things and they're repenting for it. I'm almost as prone to tears as they are. And I don't feel it. I don't know what it is about you Mr. Davilla, I don't know why, but I don't feel that you have exhibited authentic and true things," Judge Miller said.
Davilla's attorneys indicated in court they may once again take their case back to Oregon's Court of Appeals to have this sentence overturned too.
"Hopefully she has fashioned a sentence that the appeals court will not send back. That's all we can hope for," Flormoe's father Maynard Flormoe said outside court.
When asked if they'll return to court for any future appearances, Maynard said, "absolutely. We will be here."
Davilla killed Flormoe in 1991 when he was 16. Now 41, he has been in prison since 1992 when he was convicted of murder, attempted first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.
