12-year-old girl groomed on Facebook, sexually assaulted in park
A deviant who groomed a young girl online then sexually assaulted her when they met has been locked up.
Swansea man Alexander Sebastian Wyn Davies was 19 at the time of the offences – and his victim just 12.
Police have praised the courage of the youngster in coming forward and reporting what happened to her.
Davies, now aged 20, of Rosehill Terrace, Mount Pleasant, Swansea, had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of inciting an underage girl to engage in sexual activity and one count of sexual assault when he appeared in the dock at Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
The court heard Davies met the girl on Facebook, and after exchanging a series of messages arranged to meet her.
He then performed sex acts on her at a train station, and in a park in the Neath area.
Davies was sentenced to 14 months in a young offenders institution and placed on the sex offender’s register for 10 years.
South Wales Police Detective Constable Simon Davies said the offender had been brought to justice after a “complex” 12-month investigation, and he praised the girl for coming forward.
He said: “Despite the serious sexual assault the victim had the courage to support the police prosecution and gave vital evidence of the harrowing and traumatic experience.
“The victim was supported throughout by specialist CID officers who continue to work tirelessly for victims of rape and target and pursue individuals who exploit the most vulnerable within society.”
