Rehoboth Beach Police have arrested a Dover man on charges of rape and kidnapping after police say he held a woman against her will and forced her to have sex with him.
20-year-old Joshua C. Abele, of Dover was taken into custody after a woman contacted police and said Abele held her against her will inside a home in the second block of Oak Avenue and raped her.
According to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, the 21-year-old victim entered the home on Oak Avenue, where she had previously lived with Abele, to retrieve some personal property. She thought there was nobody home at the time; however, Abele hiding was inside. Once inside Abele confronted the victim and prevented her from leaving the residence while producing a black handgun, which police later determined to be a BB gun. Abele then forced the victim to have sex with him, and upon threatening to do her harm if she called police, he allowed her to leave.
The victim fled the home in a vehicle to King Charles Avenue where she contacted police. Officers were able to respond to the scene and arrest Abele as he was preparing to leave in a Ford F-150 truck.

BROCKTON – A 19-year-old city man is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl while he held her down earlier this year, a prosecutor said.
Paulo Baptista was arraigned in Brockton District Court on a single charge of rape. He was summonsed to court and appeared on his own without being arrested.
The charge stems from an incident in January. The victim, a 16-year-old girl, walked into the Brockton police station lobby that month to report she had been raped by a man known to her.
She was interviewed again in March and told investigators that several men had reached out to her on Facebook on a day in January and asked if she wanted to smoke marijuana. She waited for her mother to fall asleep and met the men, which included Baptista, according to Assistant District Attorney Christine Griffin.
At one point, one of the men left and Baptista and the victim went into a home alone, Griffin said.
He began hugging her and kissing her,” Griffin said of Baptista during his arraignment Thursday. “Mr. Baptista kept pulling her pants down and she would push him away, telling him to stop, but he would not.”
Baptista then pulled the victim’s pants fully down and raped her while he held her arms down, Griffin said.
The victim told investigators that Baptista confronted her at a later date and asked why she would accuse him when she knew he was on probation and “could get 10 years,” Griffin said.
Baptista denied the allegations when he was contacted by police and claimed he didn’t know the victim. The victim said she had known Baptista for a couple years.
The Plymouth County district attorney’s office decided to prosecute the case and issued Baptista a summons to appear in court on Thursday.
Griffin asked Judge Paula Clifford to hold Baptista, who pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, on $25,000 bail.
Baptista’s private defense attorney, Joseph Krowski Jr., said bail didn’t need to be set to ensure his client would appear in court. He noted that Baptista showed up on his own will on Thursday and that he immediately reached out to Krowski when he was issued the summons a couple weeks ago.
“I think it’s a little bit unusual for a police department to conduct an investigation and then, after conducting a fairly robust investigation, issue a summons,” Krowski said. “I think if the court would read between the lines, they have some questions as to the validity of the accusations made against him.”
Baptista is currently on probation and has an adult criminal history going back to at least 2015. On his 18th birthday, he was charged by Stoughton police with breaking into at least three vehicles. Then, in April of this year, Brockton police charged him in a police chase in which they say he had alcohol on him.
Krowski said his client always shows up to his court hearings and asked for him to be released on his personal recognizance.
“There’s no forensic evidence, there’s no other eyewitness evidence, there’s no viable rape kit evidence,” Krowski said. “This is going to be a case of her allegation versus his presumption of innocence. Given the fact that, right from the very beginning, there are significant inconsistencies, I think that we’re in a really good, a strong position.”
Clifford agreed with Krowski’s bail argument, noting that Baptista showed up to court when issued a summons and stayed for a bail hearing, even after hearing the Commonwealth request he be held on $25,000 bail. The judge did order that Baptista wear a GPS-monitoring bracelet.
Baptista is due back in court on August 15 for a probable cause hearing.

Warren man held on $1 million dollar bond in alleged child rape Jul 04, 2017 Christine Holmes

A ReNEW Accelerated High School student was booked with second-degree rape Monday (July 3), in connection with a 15-year-old girl's report of being sexually assaulted last month at a hotel party in New Orleans' Central Business District.
Justin Weatherspoon Jr., 17, remained jailed in lieu of a $45,000 bond. His defense attorney Townsend Myers is scheduled to argue for a bond reduction before Orleans Parish Magistrate Court Commissioner Albert Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux already has ordered that the teenager be outfitted with an electronic ankle monitor should he be freed on bond.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit sworn by NOPD child abuse detective Derrick Melder, the rape occurred about 12:35 a.m. on June 17 at a hotel in the 300 block of St. Joseph Street. The accuser's mother and police were notified later that afternoon, after the girl disclosed vaginal pain and bleeding to a friend's mother who had rented the hotel rooms and chaperoned the sleepover party for her two daughters and their friends.
That woman told police that no male guests had been allowed at the party, though she later learned that some boys had attended after being invited without her knowledge.
The report said the accuser recalled ingesting "an unknown amount of pineapples which had been infused with alcohol," which caused her to have hazy memories of the evening's events and eventually to pass out. The girl told authorities she awoke to the pain and bleeding, "but was unable to clearly recall the details of the incident until observing a Snapchat video of herself on the internet."
The girl told her mother she was scared because she knew she was not supposed to be drinking, and that she knew she had been sexually assaulted, because she "wasn't ready to do anything" with anyone at the party. She said she recalled being on the hallway floor during part of the hotel party.
The mother supervising the party told police she was unaware of the girl ingesting the alcohol-infused pineapples until the 15-year-old went downstairs for some fresh air. She said she didn't learn of the sexual assault until several hours later, and phoned Weatherspoon for his side of the story.
"It wasn't true ... she came on to me," the teen boy told her, according to the report. Weatherspoon's mother later seized his cellphone and found a text message exchange with the accuser that the chaperone shared with police, according to the arrest documents.
The warrant affidavit contains that graphic text exchange purportedly between Weatherspoon and his accuser, in which he responds with a laughing emoji when the girl asked if he had sex with her.
"You laughing I didn't know that s--t. I don't remember doing nun of that," the girl texted.
"Well we did," Weatherspoon responded.
A more graphic exchange follows, in which the girl discloses she had been a virgin, and tells Weatherspoon he was "db (down bad) for that."
The report said Weatherspoon's mother also spoke with police, and said she was unaware her son had left their house to attend the party. She said her son admitted to having sex with the girl, according to the report, but denied that he had raped her. However, under Louisiana law, no person 16 or younger legally can consent to sexual activity.

A 19-year-old Littlestown man, who was acquitted of rape in April, had new charges filed against him after he had sexual contact with five girls under the age of 18.
Bailey Alexander Hayhurst of the 100 block of West King Street was charged on July 5 after police received a search warrant for his cellphone and found many nude images of girls ranging from 14 to 17 years old, according to an affidavit filed with District Judge Daniel Bowman.
Hayhurst consented to a search of his cellphone, where police found text messages and images sent between him and the five girls.
Between June 2016 and July 2017, Hayhurst exchanged 701 text messages with a 14-year-old girl, police state in the affidavit.
He requested pictures of the girl and told her if anyone else knew about it, he would go to jail.
On May 20, police interviewed the girl, who told police she met Hayhurst through a mutual friend, and he first told her that he was 16 or 17, the affidavit states.
During an interview at the Children's Advocacy Center, the 14-year-old girl said Hayhurst was aware of her age and that they did exchange nude pictures.
She also said that he held her down in the back of his vehicle and had sex with her. She also stated that she was not OK with it, but didn't know what to do, police said in the affidavit.
There were four other girls that Hayhurst had similar interactions with. These girls also exchanged many text messages and nude pictures with Hayhurst, the affidavit states.
He met the girls through mutual friends, Facebook and a social application called Meet Me.
All the girls were interviewed by police and identified Hayhurst in a photo lineup, police said in the affidavit.
Almost a month after Hayhurst was acquitted of rape, he began exchanging texts one of the girls, a 16-year-old girl, the affidavit states.
Police found 324 messages including nude pictures. Hayhurst also asked her for a pornographic video of herself, police said in the affidavit.
She told police he recently contacted her from a new phone number to tell her that police were investigating him again and to ask her for more nude pictures, the affidavit states.
Hayhurst was charged with multiple counts of dissemination of explicit sex material of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor, child pornography, sexual abuse by contact and communication with a minor and statutory sexual assault, according to online court documents.
He is being held at Adams County Prison in lieu of $250,000 and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 14, documents state.
