KANDUKUR (Prakasam district): A 25-year-old married woman was found raped and murdered near a pond in Kandukuru town in Prakasam district in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to police, passers-by alerted them after finding her half-naked body lying near the pond in a pool of blood at midnight. Upon reaching the spot, police found multiple injuries on her face and neck.
Police sent her body to a government hospital in Kandukuru for post-mortem. Cops identified the victim and interrogated her family members and found out that she was married to a daily wage labourer and has a 10-year-old son.
Police claimed that she was indulging in sex work for the past few years and detained some of her previous contacts and are interrogating them. "Preliminary investigation revealed that she was having a money dispute with one of the contacts and we do suspect that he might have done it.
He is also currently absconding but we should be able to catch him soon," a police officer told TOI. They are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain how she was killed and to confirm if she was raped. So far a case has been registered under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (murder). The investigation is still on.
