Lyft ride-sharing passenger reported being raped by the driver, who dropped her off in Rancho Bernardo Thursday morning, San Diego police said.
She was heavily intoxicated and unable to give many details, police said.
The woman, in her 20s, called police to a Chevron gas station at Rancho Bernardo Road and Bernardo Center Drive about 4:50 a.m., Officer Tony Martinez said.
He said the woman told officers she was in Pacific Beach when she arranged a Lyft ride to Carlsbad. But the driver took her somewhere else and raped her, she reported.
She described him as a white man in his 30s, driving a white Toyota Prius. Officers were investigating.
Scott Coriell, a spokesman for Lyft, sent a statement saying, "What is being described here is horrifying. Our concern is with the victim of this attack. At this time, we are unable to identify a Lyft ride matching the time and location information provided. We have reached out to law enforcement for additional information and stand ready to assist in their investigation."
