MUMBAI: Two autorickshaw drivers were arrested for kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl from Malad. This was the third rape case lodged by her parents in the last two years.Police said the survivor suffers from a mental illness.
On September 28 morning, the survivor's parents and brother left home for work and locked her in. When her mother returned at 1pm, she was missing. They looked for everywhere. The next day, a neighbour told her mother that the girl had come to her place the previous day and stayed with her till 11.30pm. The family waited for five days for the girl to return home and then lodged a missing complaint with Dindoshi police. On October 3, she returned home but was dressed in an outfit that was not hers. Medical test revealed she had been raped.
"We arrested Kamlesh Sharma (36) and Ramtahal Yadav (40) who raped her in their autos between September 29 and October 3," said a police officer.
Last October, the girl was raped by five men from her neighbourhood over a period of 10 days. The incident came to light when her mother discovered she was pregnant. In July, she went missing a day before she was to identify the five accused at Arthur Road Jail. This time, the accused were two men. "The accused in the three cases are not known to each other," said a cop.
