30-year-old woman gang-raped by 4 men in front of husband, 3-month-old infant
NEW DELHI - A 30-year-old woman in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was gang-raped by four men at gunpoint in front of her husband and their three-month-old infant, police said on Saturday (Oct 7).
The woman told police she was raped in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, while her husband was being tied up and beaten by her tormentors, India Today and China's state news agency Xinhua reported.
"The accused persons, according to victim, took turns to rape her and held the child hostage, besides threatening to kill the child," a police official in Muzaffarnagar district said.
She and her husband were returning after visiting a pediatrician on Friday with their baby on a motorbike, when the four armed men in a car intercepted and waylaid them off the road.
"Four men dragged me to a sugar cane farm and raped me," the victim said. "They constantly threatened to kill my child and roughed up my husband."
The four men also threatened her and her husband of dire consequences if they disclosed the incident to anyone.
Police said they have yet to identify the accused.
Following the ordeal, the couple screamed for help and a few local residents from a nearby village rushed to take them to a police station, according to media reports.
Both the husband and the wife were later sent to hospital for treatment and medical examination, police said.
