NOIDA: A 24-year-old washerman has been arrested for raping a 13-year-old girl in Mamura village in Phase-III on Tuesday night. The rape took place around 10 pm when the minor went to a toilet outside her rented accommodation.
The girl's family members said the accused, Mushtaq, was already standing near the public toilet. "He gagged and pulled the girl inside the washroom and assaulted her," said the girl's mother.
She further said she waited for her daughter to return from the washroom. "When she did not return after a long time, I went to check. I knocked at the door, but there was no response. After a few minutes, the accused opened the door and fled the spot. I found my daughter crying in the washroom," she said.
The woman claimed she went to the police station to report the matter but officials did not register a complaint at night. SHO, Phase III, Akhilesh Pradhan, termed the allegations baseless.
"The girl's mother approached us on Wednesday morning and we immediately filed a case of rape. Our team visited the village and arrested the accused. The minor was sent for a medical examination and reports are awaited," he said.
Mushtaq, a resident of Bihar, works as a washerman and lived in the neighbourhood. He was produced in court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody.
