Mumbai: A 13-year-old girl was raped by a 57-year-old man in Mumbai who recorded the heinous act on his mobile phone camera and later circulated the video among his friends, the police said.
The man has been arrested.
As per a midday.com report, police said that the accused runs a video game parlour in South Mumbai and decided to commit the crime after seeing the girl play outside the parlour.
An official from JJ Marg police station said that the accused switched on the cell phone camera and then proceeded to rape the girl, the Indian Express reported.
The rapist also reportedly threatened the girl against informing anyone about the incident.
As per report, the parents of the girl came to know about the incident after they were shown the video of the crime by a local resident.
The accused had reportedly removed the memory card from the phone and had kept it in a drawer. The local resident, who was in need of a memory card, rummaged through the drawer and came across the card. Upon inserting the card on his phone, he saw the incriminating video and informed the parents of the victim, who later filed a complaint against the man.
Fearing punishment, the accused, who has a wife and two children, fled to Uttarakhand and remained in hiding till the police tracked him down based on a phone call he made to a relative. He was then arrested in connection with the case and booked under under the Indian penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
